So I was thinking of grabbing an ASUS board with ExpressGate when I finally get around to upgrading to i7/i5......in the meantime, keen to find out whether or not I will *actually* use this functionality, as it will restrict motherboard choices.
Currently, I have (per sig !) a Maximus Formula SE and so - having killed my probably daft idea of swapping it out for a P5Q or similar with ExpressGate - trying to establish what options there are in the wild to simulate......Splashtop or Presto seem to be mentioned ?....but, ideally, would prefer free !! ;)
Whatever, I want the solution to be 'wifety-proof' - meaning no faffing, just a real quick boot into the world of instant web access and Skype !
Suggestions ?

Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, Feather Linux and Arch Linux are all tiny distro's, nifty but i'm not sure about boot times. They'll be on the internet somewhere.

I had it on my last board. It's like using a simple, somewhat broken copy of linux that you can't repair yourself, add programs to or change in any way. Drove me nuts. I hope in time it will be possible to flash more useful things to the onboard flash chip. At least something that I could run gparted from.

I suggest setting grub to 3s or so, and having the first entry pointing to a debian stable minimal install, with X, xdm, firefox and skype on it. It'll boot a bit slower than arch, but I can't think of anything more wife proof than debian stable with an unknown root password. The gf is running ubuntu on her laptop and doesn't know the root password, consequently it's been running brilliantly for ages. All the extra software isn't needed though and probably slows boot time, debian can turn on very swiftly

Thanks, guys - really want a pre-built and real simple solution, as I have zero Linux experience short of an old Knoppix CD kicking around for emergency PC access and all of about 90 seconds powering on my Eee901 when I first got it before chucking on XP > Vista > W7RC

Will read up !
