looking to spend around 30-40 pounds max

i only have a 32 bit o.s but, if i put 4gb, will it still utilise the 3.5gb it can read or should i just get 2gb.

ive always used 64 bit o.s but in building this pc i can only have a 32 bit so i don't know what to go for

it will utilise 4GB - memory used by your Graphics card and other components.

ie, if you have a graphics card with 1GB of memory, theory means you can use 3GB of RAM if no other devices take up the memory your OS can address

also are we talking about the pc in your sig?

i would just get 4GB, and get a 2x2GB kit, - the amount of memory you loose wont be much, well unless you you have 2x 4870X2s in that PC - its more convent for memory upgrades in the future if any occur

You'd get around 3.3gb of ram. Im running a system with 512mb vram and 4gb ram on 32bit os.
