Im sick of poor CF readers, I have another here which crushes the pins, despite being so very careful as to how the card is inserted. I think this is my 3rd to go kaput! I had an internal Akasa one die, and a no brand external. This one is an external Akasa of some kind.
I have an expresscard one which has a kind of spring loaded cover for the pins, would love one like that in USB.

I only need it for reading CF cards, if that makes any difference!

Halp Moi! :)

I use a Lexar UDMA CF reader here... Doesn't have the spring loaded cover but does fold up so you don't get dust in the slots.

Hmm, might do, Has it lasted long? It just seems that the pins themselves end up being crushed or bent toward others. This one I have is now beginning to annoy me!

I suffered the same thing for years until I brought a cheap £10 internal USB 2.0 reader with long guide rails which ensure the card is deeply straight and perpendicular before it touches the pins.
I have upgraded to USB 3.0 and use Lexar Professional which is wickedly fast and has the deep long rails but it is not internal, external readers get knocked about and dropped for one reasons or another. I bought this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FL-009-AK&groupid=701&catid=1913&subcat=221 but returned it due to the short guide rails. USB 3.0 has been out for quite a while but there aren’t many internal card readers on the market.

Had it 6 months. Can't say I've ever had pins bend on any camera/reader unless I've inserted the card incorrectly (that was a £300 mistake  )
