Do you think you'll be able to get a decent computer with sandy bridge on the 9th of jan for around 700 quid from overclockers? Or will i be looking at paying more than that? I just want a good computer that will run football manager at the best speed and also play other game's in good detail for the next 3 years. Only need a tower i have everything else.

I am speccing a self build new system at the moment and have found that for decent components I am looking at £ 329 ex VAT w/o CPU & Mobo

Sandybridge will probably cost £ 260 ex VAT for the cheapest mobo and CPU combo so if you add that on that is £ 589 ex VAT... if you add the VAT its £ 736 and overclockers will probably charge around there for a lower spec system.

FYI my spec consists of;

Coolermaster Gladiator 600 Case (ocUK like to use the similar Antec 300)
Antec Basiq 550W PSU (ocUK like to use the similar Corsair CX600)
Western Digital 1TB SATA Hard Drive (ocUK like to use a Seagate 500GB)
Crucial 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3 1333mhz (ocUK like to use 4GB of the Corsair 1600mhz stuff which is faster but less of it)
MSI Radeon 5850 1GB Twin Frozr Graphics (ocUK like to use the inferior GT430 and a similar card is a £ 91 upgrade)

So judging by the current systems on offer you will be hard pushed to build a system as decent as mine for £ 736 even.

So if i'm only paying around 700 (800 tops) should i be looking at buying something now? and without sandy bridge?

Well £ 744 now will buy you a Titan Exodus i5 760 @ 4ghz with a GTX 460 Hawk and everything I mentioned above that ocUK builds consist of.

Expect a similarly overclocked i5 2500K 3.3ghz (the overclockable one) @ 4ghz or above with a basic P67 motherboard and GTX 460 Hawk to cost more then that initially.

If you can get such a system built by overclockers for £ 800 you are doing very well.

If you are prepared to stump up £ 800 it might be worth seeing what is available as they might do the lower end Sandybridge CPUs which are not overclockable for that amount or slightly less even with the GTX 460 Hawk.

It's hard to tell at this stage of course. I'd personally wait and see what's on offer when it's released then make up your mind. Don't rush into it just now if you don't need it. Sum it all up, wait on benchmarks etc etc.

:)

By this time tomorrow that same system will be £760 what with the v.a.t increase :(

VAT! No the dreaded increase of about 1p!

HaHa!

I have reading about all these people rushing to buy things before the VAT increase. My god! It's £2.50 every £100. £25 every £1000 you spend really isn't a lot.

If you spend a grand on a computer system I don't really think an extra 25 quid will make much difference do you?

It's even worse when people rush out to buy something at £60. Either they are too silly to realise the actual amount extra they are paying or they are so tight fisted. Either way, what's the big deal.

If you can assemble it yourself I'm certain you'll be able to do Sandy Bridge for Sub £700. I barely spent £600 on my i5 750 build and that was in the summer when Ram was £90 for 4gb.
