So ive decided im going to get a 5800X3D rather than go AM5.

Currently i use a corsair H100X AIO cooler

Considering changing to an air cooler. Is there a decent one that uses the stock mounting brackets ( basically to save me having to take the mobo out the case )

I use a Hyper 212 Evo and it seems to do the job, does get up to 80C however this doesn't appear any concern for such a CPU and runs at about 4.3Ghz all core. And this is a really cheap air cooler.

I would get Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE.
Peerless Assassin 120 SE is far superior to Hyper 212 Evo.
Peerless Assassin 120 SE has 6x 6mm heatpipes in twin towers with dual fans for similar price (maybe less than) Hyper 212 Evo.
Hyper 212 Evo has 4x 6mm heatpipes in single tower with single fan.

I'm running mine with a D15s from Noctua - but 100% agree with others about going with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Matches/beats the D15s for half the price.

The hyper 212 evo
Was the go to for a long while
Especially bang for buck
But the peerless assassin is the new hyper 212 evo
And some of thermalright other coolers
Are no slouches either
The 212 evo will still get you by
On some of the lower powered cpus though

Just upgraded to a 5800X3D myself. Ended up with the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120, outstanding for the price.

Was £31 from a competitor.

EDIT - Just to add, my idle temp is 30c and max I've seen running AIDA stress test was 75c.

The Phantom Spirit has 7 heatpipes versus the 6 of the Peerless Assassin and last time I checked was the cheapest of the lot. If you pick the RGB fan version it was £29.

It does have 7
Though the heatpipes at either end/side
Only partly touch the cold plate
Sometimes where the heatpipes are
Is more important than the number of them

Not that there's a great deal of difference
In any of those thermalright ones
Can't really go wrong with any of the 4 anyway

I have the Frost Commander 140.

It does cool my CPU well but the fans are pretty loud under load.

Cost a little bit more but still not bad for what you get.
