I've not had to use a DVD player in years since I discovered a certain Bay full of Pirates, but I got the 24 box set for Christmas and I'm keen to watch them as intended.

Looking for a fairly decent DVD player that can help make non-HD stuff look better. I tried the 24 DVD out on the player downstairs and the quality wasn't that great. I'm not looking for miracles because obviously it's not a HD DVD, but I've heard some players can 'upscale' ?

Recommendations very greatly appreciated :D

You can get a fairly decent blu-ray player for that kind of money these days, they usually do a good job of upscaling dvd's. A Sony BDPS4100 would be good choice methinks.

Aye, you can tell I am a bit behind with all this.

Been reading about these Sony players, the BDPS5100 seems like a very good choice from what I have read, though admittedly slightly more than I was looking to spend.

Is it much better than the BDPS4100?

Looking at the specs, the main difference is the 5100 has built in wifi, I would not consider that feature to be important if all you want it to do is play discs & don't want to access the blu-ray disc extras, which require the player to be online. Firmware updates for players are not that many (I've had about 3 updates for my panny player in 5 years) I've used the network port for that. :)

When I had a Blu-Ray player I updated the firmware twice in about two years and only when a disc wouldn't play. I'd have thought that, if anything things would have calmed down in the two years since I sold it along with my movie collection.

Cheers folks.

Went ahead and ordered the BDPS4100. There's no chance I'm spending an extra £50 or so just for WiFi which, as you have said I may never use.

Is this likely to make my DVD's look better on my TV (Samsung UE40EH5000) ?
