I'm trying to find some software that'll give me 2 way video that isn't as jerky as hell. Using MSN Live Messenger, or Skype, seems to only use some of my available upload bandwidth- surely I want to be pretty much maxing it?
I know my webcam can give smooth video- I've recorded it locally.

I wondered if it was because the data goes through the app's servers (does it?), so I'm hoping there's a direct IP to IP video service that is free or cheap, that supports duplex video and sound. I don't mind configuring port forwarding rules.

Anybody any ideas?

what upload speeds do the users on both ends have?

that is what limits the quality

make sure all downloading programs are turned off for each conneciton

768 on my end, and 512 at the other. I can confirm there are no other uploads (or DLs) running at the time. I know my video upload isn't maxing the connection, because when I'm vid chatting, I can seed torrents or upload files, and my upload rate goes up.

You're right, I was just illustrating that if my video upload is a certain speed, and ANYTHING else can increase my upload speed, then surely the video upload is not max?

Who'd try to run time sensitive data over a net connection whilst flooding a router with NAT's?
