Hi Guys,

Just in the middle of having to replace our electrolux fridge/freezer since its died in all this heat (only 5 years old too ). Any recommendations of what makes/models to look at? Looking to spend a max of say £750 to £1000 and was hoping for the american style with the double doors

Ive no idea whats good or not really - but what weve seen Samsung, LG and Whirlpool look nice and have those type of fridge/freezers in our budget...

Thanks

Oh man we've just had a new kitchen and finally got my american fridge! I think it's a samsung without checking and it's been a godsend with the ice/water dispencer in this heat.

Also the sheer size of the inside is superb, and makes you wonder why you ever had a normal fridge/freezer!

Cheers for the recommendations guys - keep them coming!!! Samsungs in the lead - definitely want something finished with stainless steel...

Do any of you know your models at all? - seems Im looking at the 'cheap' side of these american fridge/freezers - so if I know models/prices it will give me a better idea...

Cheers

Miele, Siemens, or Bosch....

you did ask for decent ones... :)
If you know of them making a sub-£1000 american style fridge/freezer let me know - Ive just assumed they dont :p

Cheers for the heads-up on Hotpoint - normally avoid them as a general rule ;)

My parents have one, I think it's the Samsung RS21FCNS. It's got the water and ice dispenser on the left door, and a small hatch on the right door for getting to stuff like milk, drinks etc quickly. It's a big-ass thing, but it's certainly impressive. Food keeps a lot longer, too.

I got a Samsung too - was a lot less than your budget but its still very well built.

It's got power too, even in this weather we didnt need to up the level, its still set to 2 out of 5. 5 would freeze everything in the fridge :D

Nice silvery steel colour

Cool (sic :p) I think Ill shopping for one this weekend and hit the main major leccy stores - looks like Samsung seem a safe bet - wish we could afford a Miele/Bosch...

Cheers

I have an LG two door huge thing, had it about 2 years

My folks' American style LG is on the blink after about eighteen months of ownership. It deposited a pool of something on the kitchen floor earlier, and struggles to keep frozen food cold enough, despite now being turned up to its maximum cooling level.

If you want an american style fridge then go for an american brand ie something like Amana. The one we have has been with us for around 12 yrs now and has never given us any problems. Comes with an ice maker and water dispenser and the good thing is the temp is all electronically controlled. Keeps my drinks super cold in the summer and the rest of the food nice and cool.
Cost us about £1200 but is well worth it and has acres of space in it.

Make sure its from a company with very good aftersales ie Bosch, Whirlpool etc. The american style fridges tend to break more. Miele are really good but that will probably be out of your price range. Also, i'm not sure they even make the larger american style fridges, just large traditional style fridges.

As stated above, stay well clear of Indesit / Hotpoint / Creda (all one company now i believe - under Indesit).
