hi guys....just sold my alienware m17x r2 for 2k plus postage which im delighted about.... i want to replace it with something not quite so fancy for about £500 - £800...my main uses just now are watching movies when im away from home which is 4 nights a week so fairly often....i dont want a blu ray drive but if it comes with it fair enough, im happy with a 15.6 screen or above...id like it to play games like black opps and hot pursuit...hopefully i7 cpu but not a deal breaker...budget could go a bit higher if you want to shout something out...should i borrow my sons laptop for a while and see what the new mobile chips bring to the table? let me know what you think please :)

quite liked the spec on the msi that ocuk have.........

I bought my lappy a year ago and still love it to pieces can't see me upgrading any time soon . Its an acer gemstone blue 8735g . The only problem with it is the size of the the thing it has an 18.4 inch screen .

Not really clued a lot about gaming laptops, but the MSI OcUK sells seem to be quite popular. They went up in price though, they used to be a lot cheaper. Maybe you can find a good deal elsewhere.

so basically, i5 + HD5870M would be a good base for gaming.

Or a more standard laptop, with a graphics card a notch below (about 1/2 power), that will still play games. You'll be looking at the GT330M, GT425M, HD5650, HD5830, and i5. But you'll have to compromise on graphics quality.

Here is a good site to get a rough idea of mobile graphics card performance, and to compare them.
