Just planning out my updated set-up.

As inputs I will have:

I will have a Sky+ HD Box, PS3 and Apple TV.

As outputs I will have:

Samsung JU6410 TV
Sonos Soundbar

I want to make sure I can get 5.1 on the soundbar and try and avoid connecting the optical cable into the TV (as this will impact the wall mount).

Does anyone have any guidance on a decent HDMI switch that will output audio over optical into the Sonos bar?

Thanks.

maybe an avr?
had a quick look at avr's none appear to have optical out

try hdmi switch -> tv, optical from tv ->sonos, but depends upon your sources and the tv passing full 5.1 through to the sonos

DOH just read avoid connecting the optical cable into the TV

and I dont think you can get a hdmi switch that also switches optical, most opticals I've seen are manual

your best bet will be using a DAC before soundbar so you can present audio to sound bar via a different connector ie rca, coax etc.
like this lindy box.....

(hope i can link that??? sorry if not)

If you fit that before sound bar you will then have the option to switch the phono from that box with your sources.

Hope this makes sense im terrible at explaining things.

no blu ray player mentioned?

also playbar doesnt support dts, so depending upon source you may not get any sound if you have optical straight to playbar

...Here's the issue though: Sonos says they want you to use your TV as a hub, all the inputs going to the TV and then optical audio out from the TV to the Playbar. Great idea - but the problem is that most TV's won't pass Dolby Digital 5.1 surround from HDMI to the digital/optical audio. If it's from the TV itself (such as Netflix on a smart TV) it will pass 5.1 through the optical port but not from HDMI...
