Hi all, i'm really quite a home audio n00b, but about two years ago i bought a set of eltax millenium 500's in comet, purely cos they looked so cool.

At the moment they're running off an old Denon D-100 seperates system which has no doubt impeding them. I know the setup i've got isnt like uber or even that great, so i'm ready for flaming from you experts :p .

I really just want a decent amp to pump them a bit better, i'm alread very satisfied with the volume of them, but am hoping a better amp would help the overall quality a bit especially the high end.

Looking at home audio amps, they don't really go that high before getting to DJ territory. I'm seeing lots of 2x60w and 6x50w etc, out of interest are home audio amps like that, 6 channels bridgeable?

ANY recommendations running the 500's a bit better, and cabling recommendations. Not talking silly money here but couple hundred at most.

The reason that the power seems low is twofold:

1) PA stuff is a load of arse - they dont really give a damn about harmonic distortion or anything like that. Its often cheap and nasty sounding rubbish. To get things to sound great at those sorts of powers just isnt cheap!

2) You dont need more than 100W for most speakers in most rooms. for your hearing's sake you dont really want more than 94dB at your listening position. For quite a lot of people, that usually means no more than 16w ever gets used!!

For your budget of £200ish I wouldnt even think about looking at anything other than 2 channel stereo integrated amps and I would be looking second hand for sure. Arcam Alpha / Delta amps can be had for this money used, as can older Musical Fidelity / Audiolab /

Free upgrade tip: Check your speaker positioning - getting it right will make quite a big difference!
