Hello folks

My sister needs a new Windows laptop and asked me for recommendations. I'm reasonably savvy with desktop stuff but I know nothing about laptops.
She'll be using it for work - mainly writing. Though also writing scripts for Audio-Description which means that she'll be playing video files a bit - so a reasonable screen would be preferable. Doesn't have to be UHD or OLED, just reasonable (basically better than her creaky 10 year old 14" Toshiba), and no smaller than 15.6". And a numberpad is essential.
I was looking at ASUS Vivobook 16, but now I'm thinking an Acer Aspire 5 might be better.
Any thoughts on decent laptops in this price range?

Thanks

I would also consider the Dell Inspiron 15 range. I've got a Dell and it's been pretty good. Dell is my favourite laptop brand.

Dell is a US company, Asus and Acer are Taiwanese. Out of Asus and Acer, I would go Asus.

Lenovo has some pretty good deals on until the end of today (and will probably have more in a few days). I'd look at the Ideapad Slim 3i Gen 8 (16" Intel).

And all three manufacture their laptops in China so it doesn't really matter where they're based.

Nothing will be made in the US indeed. Lenovo would also be my suggestion but hanging on for Black Friday/Cyber Monday will make sure you make the most of the budget!
