Been a while since I built a system & see that chipsets have moved on again.... Last time I used a Z68 board this time I think Z77 looks the way to go...

However I have never seen so much choice - I usually stick to ASUS but they have so many different boards available & I am not really sure what the differences are.

I will probably be using a Sandy i7 (2700K) but might try an Ivy is they are better. I will be using a Corsair watercooler & looking for a reasonable 24/7 overclock to 4.2 - 4.4ghz....

Are there any obvious stand out MOBO choices this generation?

Thanks.

Depends what your budget is but i just got the MSI Z77 Big bang Mpower board from OcUK @ £149.99

Ive got a 2600k under water at 4.6@ 1.36v 24/7, trying to get more though ;)

Sorry - yes I should've mentioned a budget..... I'll have a look at the MSI - never bought from them before though....

I will spend around £210 if I have to but would be happy to spend less if no benefit for the extra.

Since you prefer Asus and your budget allows it why not just get the Sabertooth?

Is it worth the premium over some of the other boards? Or am I just paying for a load of fancy plastic cladding over an identical chipset?

Agree though that the sabretooth is not priced too badly for an enthusiast board - the Maximus V range seem more over the top....
