Hi guys im looking at upgrading my psu soon and I cant seam to find one that suits what im looking for. I want it modular (for neatest cabling), also I need 4 pci-e power connectors, and if the longer the main connectors the better.

I've looked at the Enermax Galaxy but that only has 2x pci-e connectors. Has anyone seen one that suits what im looking for?

i dont know any off the top of my head with 4 genuine pci-e connectors, you will possibly need two PSU's to get 4 legit pci-e connectors in there, and chainlink them for startup, or far easier, just get two molex to pci-e convertors to add to the galaxy, i think ocuk sell akasa molex->pci-e convertors for about £3 each

I never like the idea of using converters if I dont have to, the Tagan TG1100-U95 does have 4 dedicated connectors but its not modular, I guess the galaxy is the best option that I have seen but just thought I would double check if anyone has seen something that fitted the bill :D

true but I want a 1000watt one. I have a Seasonic 600watt psu at the moment, but I want to upgrade as I plan on getting a quad core system (after I see what the amd ones perform like) and will add a second 8800 at some point. That plus everything else will mean a major drain on my system so anything less than 1000watt just isnt an option.

That and the current Seasonic's cables are a little short for my case so it prevents me from doing a nice cable routing job in my case.

Have you determined what the recommended PSU is for that system? Do you have banks and banks of hard drives?

It is good to slightly overspec your PSU, but 1000W PSU is a bit OTT.

four pci-e adapters = two 8800gtx in SLI?

according to: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

ON THEIR OWN two 8800GTX's in sli will consume 400+ watts, if the rest of the system is just as power hungry, IE overclocked CPU, a load of fans, several HDDs, etc, etc then im guessing your going to need to get atleast a 750w+ power supply

2 psu's would work but the antec 900 case I have doesnt really allow for what I have, the system is heavily overclocked, at the moment I have 6 drives at the moment loads of fans, serveral power hungry devices from usb, plus Im getting one 8800 gtx this month and plan another soon. My main reason for wanting quad core is that im often running multiple operating systems at once via virtulization so this would be quite a major upgrade though I dont want go for intel just yet as I would like to see how amds offering performs first.

Admittedly none of what im using is exactly nesicery but I would rather overspec than under.

Why are you under the impression that the Galaxy only has 2 PCIe connectors? It has 4, 2 native and 2 modular. Both models.

Because when I looked at the tech spec's on their own website it actually says only 2x pci-e connectors. Which I found odd given that it goes on about being for quad gfx etc.. The link that ocuk used to give before they changed their site to the specs of the device only showed two, http://www.enermax.com/admin/pic/20068414191644163.jpg also links to their connector information and it only shows 2 pci-e connectors, I could be wrong but going on this info I can only conclude it has 2 connectors and not 4.

Must I take a picture, It has 4 for pete's sake. Look at the box, and I'm not opening the case to take pictures :p Even your picture shows it has 4, 2 in the native and 2 in the modular

If it definatly has 4 that ideal then, how long are the main cables as my case has the psu at the bottom and my current one's cables are a little short to be able to do a neat cabling job. :D

The system im planning for this is just my main one, used for high end gaming and work as well. In gaming it will be running an sli setup of 8800 (though only buying one at a time), for work im often going to be doing a lot of virtualization and running serveral operating systems at once. Its not something im building all at once but I want to get a new psu anyway, plus im getting my first 8800 at the end of the month, so I would rather get a psu that fits my future expected upgrades.

ok if this is the case why get a quad core? get a 6400 or 6600 quad core will be a waste of your money this will also mean that you could reduce the power needed for your psu again saving you more money!

The 6400 and 6600's wouldnt offer my much of a performance boost over what im using at the moment. At the moment I have an opteron 170 running at 2.8ghz so its running the same speed as an fx-62. Sure the new intels would be a little bit better but if im going to be investing in a new motherboad, ram and cpu I may as well do it with something thats actually going to give me a bigger performance increase.

Im not planning on getting the quad core just yet, that wouldnt be done until some point next year because I want to see what the amd quad offering is like, from the sounds of things it could be better than the intel. Im not really bothered about the money, I prefer to over spec on my psu's etc so I dont have to worry about power requirements when the time comes that I do upgrade.

dood imho you will notice sod all difference from a quadcore to a c2d in games at the minute! i too went from a 170 at 2.8ghz on stock volts and my c2d feels years faster than it, also it will clock very high aswell as you can see from my sig! a fx62 is about the same as a 6600 or 6400 at 6600 speeds (2.4ghz) so imagine pushing this and extra 1ghz more to 3.4 which should be fairly easily do-able!
* i can't help but think you just want a large e-penis?

I know standard gaming wouldnt show anything but gaming while I have serveral other highly cpu intensive apps running will show an improvement, plus I tend to have 2 mmo games running at once (rf online and eve online). The whole point is Im not getting a quad core yet, it will be next year before I will be looking to get one and by that time there will be more applications to make use of it.

At the end of the day I dont see what the big deal is in wanting to get a psu now that will run the hardware I hope to be getting bit by bit over the next year or so. After all if my getting a new psu now why get one that I will have to replace 6 or 8 months from now when I can get one now that will last even longer.
