In all honesty, i've never liked any pure FPS games for it's single player campaign. They tend to be a bit bland.
So my choices for single player games would tend to use FPS elements, but incoroprate other elements too.
So
Borderlands
Fallout 3
Deus Ex
Bioshock 1 & 2 (never played them yet myself though but meaning to)
If you do wish to dabble in Multiplayer then I have to say Battlefield 3 looks to be leagues ahead of anything else.
I thought Killzone 3 was decent, but again I was playing multiplayer a lot to owith some friends so that helped. Campaign is average, like most FPS games.
As others have said though, if you can leave the FPS behind Uncharted is worth a shot for anyone.
