Hey guys,

I'm in the process of being trained on SCCM.

I've got the basics and can create software packages, advertisements and other bits and pieces.

The problem is when it comes to troubleshooting issues I have with it I need to go trawling the web, it'd be good to register to a decent active forum with quick responses (such as this one)

Any suggestions? :)

Many thanks,
Jake

SCCM isn't easy. Where I work I use it daily. I did a SCCM & App-V course and the rolling out packages, deployments e.t.c isn't too bad. The hardest part of SCCM is setting it up and fine tuning.

Normally if problems occur I Google it and see if it's already been discussed but not really used real forums for it.

Do you use App-V along side SCCM?

Can't say I've heard App-V mentioned here, what is it for?

No it certainly isn't easy, it's a big beast to tamed, they threw a 'quick' reference guide at me that was 51 pages long...:D

I've got to grips with it now I can;

Create collections, advertisements, packages
Do windows updates for clients and servers
have played with editing task sequences

I'm getting there with it, plus we have a guy who was the unofficial SCCM guy, but now the role is 'officially' being assigned to me :p

Ouch, lots to learn if you are the official sccm guy.

App-V is virtual applications, which can be packaged and rolled out to desktops and a click of a ticky box. SCCM doesn't really target user accounts well and SCCM is locally install applications where App-V (allows users to be part of a GS group ) can target users rather than computer rollouts.

I love task sequences! One of the best features to roll out different operating systems quickly across large deployments.

I know! *cries*

App-V sounds really cool...I might suggest work look into that.

Yeah Task Sequences are so handy! currently working on updating our current image by duplicating the existing task sequence and adding additional drivers, new software versions etc.

We're only using SCCM 2007, I'm leaving so our plan to upgrade to SC2012 suite has stalled and I doubt it'll ever happen.

I've got 56 domains, no trusts, no forests running SCCM into a central server, setup was hell on earth to configure but works surprisingly well even though some of them are on very slow ADSL connections. Support wise though it's a case of learning to read the log files, which thankfully are rather superb.

90% of the time it's a service having stopped, power cut or someone turning a server off , very rarely SCCM at fault and when it is you can usually repair it quickly with the power of google!

Blog wise nobody comes close to Sherry Kissinger, she's an SCCM Godess tbh!

If you're ever googling an error, chances are she's replying with the best fix.
