Why are there so few in this genre? Are there any gems i dont know about? Started nexus 2 days ago and I have been absolutely hooked on it! I'm pretty impressed at how long the game has lasted aswell, too bad about all its bugs.

Are there any recent Master of Orion games? I loved 1 and 2, but they were yonks ago. (Sort of like Civ in space. Great fun :))

The Star Trek RTS games are meant to be decent. Also Star WARS: Empire at War.

Star trek birth of the federation.
Imperial Galactica 2
Star Wolves 1 and 2 you can have a look for perhaps.
DarkStar one
Galactic Civilizations 2 Dread Lords and the Exp pack.
There is a Masters of Orion 3 but its a bit too hard ppl say.
Space Empires 4 or 5

Master of Orion 3 is terrible by all accounts... just play Master of Orion 2. We do! (a few mates and I still play network games!) :D

yup MOO2 > the others
Birth of the Federation is good, strictly a turn based game with some minor rts ship fights :)

I like Nexus : The Jupiter incident I think it was called. Lovely looking and playing game

Nexus really surprised me. There seemed to be a lot of time and effort put in to the presentation, it's just a shame it was so buggy, and virtually impossible. :(

And the good Star Trek games are very difficult to get hold of now.

I almost forgot about BOTF! Brilliant game :) Good fun multiplayer too, but you tend to spend hours and hours building up, and just have one big battle at the end that lasts about 4 minutes lol.

nexus was truely a spectacular game i thought, although i didnt come across the bugs people have mentioned? Yes its tough, but not impossible ;)

Genesis Rising is recently out there if you want to have a go at it, demo is available too. It looks intensely micro-management heavy and i'm unsure of its long term playability but it seemed worth a bit of interest.

BOTF is superb... But I can't get it to run on my current PC :( Ascendancy, in its antique way, was very cool- crude gameplay but incredibly immersive. I can still hear the main theme... But Master of Orion 2 is the daddy, has to be. What a stunning game... Wonder where my copy is

Hah, yes, how come they've not been mentioned? I got all distracted off the RTS and onto turn-based... Homeworld's stunningly good, Homeworld 2 IMO a lot less so but still blinding.
