Decent tyres which last well?

Just checked what's on there and they are actually marked "extra load" - my bad!

In fairness there's probably closer to 12k on this set and they're a mil or so above the wear indicators so it's somewhere between 12 and 15k a set Id say - I don't keep close track. I will make sure that whenever I get next is XL rated though, now I know to watch out for it

When I went on the Michelin site it showed me this ;

508, 508 SW
2.0 HDI 163, 2011
235 / 45 R18 98W XL

Took a stab in the dark regarding the engine etc but the tyre size looked the same so I figured it can't be far wrong, it suggested primacy 3 and when I clicked on it, it showed me the XL after the size.

Yep see my last post, they are XL, just didn't notice before. That's the right engine Yep - the primacy 3 is probably what im going to go with this time around

Is this not a FWD car?

Where are the rears wearing ? Across the whole tyre evenly, across either edge, down the middle, etc. from this you can work out why (too much +ve/-cd camber, too much toe, over/under inflated etc)

I personally think that makes no sense (all cars ive had wear the driven wheels the hardest by a long shot) and would suggest you get someone competent to check the cars alignment

They're FWD and it was done by a company I know and trust with a hunter machine. I have the printout and am happy with it.

The wear is a bit more to the middle of the tyre but only by about a mil, so probably a bit overinflated if anything.

My Passat is running Conti CS5 (I think) now it's on 21k and they are still going strong. Though I do a lot of motorway miles, guess it could help a bit as less stop/start or turning. I tend to have a boot full of tools and equipment at all times. Car had it's first service at 19k, VW said it had 5mm all round.

Michelin Energy Saver (+).

I run a taxi and cover around 80k a year. I've never seen another tyre last anything like as long as these do.

I would recommend Michelin. I've had Kuhmos and Hankooks on my Clio up 'til now. I was getting fed up of changing them so often so decided to spend more on Michelins (ES+). Good investment in my books - was changing the fronts every 8,000 miles - crap roads, impatient driver. On my Michelins I've done some 5,000 and they look great still. Definitely have another 5,000 in them at the very least.

I did think about trying the CS5 as its the 3 I've been using - can't remember why, think my tyre place didn't have the 5 in stock first time around and I've just stuck with what I had. The car feels great with the continentals but I don't know how different the 5 is.

My driving is mostly motorway and A road - would struggle to do 30k in a year otherwise unless i was running it as a taxi! Although the A303 seems to be my second home, which has a few more roundabouts than the average motorway.

Yep think I've settled on the michelins - several suggestions here and good reviews, plus being the OEM tyre make it seem like it's worth a punt. I'm pretty sure there's just some combination of the car, the type of driving and the tyres I'm using resulting in them wearing quicker than I'd hope. I know the car itself is absolutely fine so I'm only going to change one of those things!

While you can't compare tyres across car types as such, my Superb lasted 38k on Continental EcoContact tyres and they still had almost 2mm left on them. They're a fairly quiet tyre and are low rolling resistance too.
