Not really looked at graphics cards for a while and this is the longest card ive owned EVER lol.

Ive got about 100-150 to spend on a upgrade, id like something obviously quicker than my 8800GTX.

Cheers for any tips!

£115-120 5770.

Any more than £150 and you may as well save more monies up and put it towards a 5850.

I went from 8800 GTS 320 to 4890 and it was a big jump, i'd be inclined to go 5770 these days tho.

surely the 8800 would outperform the 5770? are the 5770's really THAT good i assumed they were like budget.

I'd say about 40-50% faster in DX9/10 stuff generally... but some of the DX10/11 features aren't that much cut down from the 5870 - even tho the ROPs, SPs, etc. are which is why in cf they can in very specific cases smoke the 5870.

Not knocking the 5770 but I wouldn't say it was that worthwhile as an upgrade from a decently clocked 8800GTX - I'd be tempted to hold off til you can afford a 5850 or maybe the 5830 - tho thats late - but is likely to be only a few quid above the budget.

i still have the 8800gtx in my old machine and as far as iam concerened its 1 hell of a card.
now in my new setup i have a 5970 and this is a great card,iv had the 5870 and the 4890 and to your question 4890

Hmm looking at the OP he said he wanted something obviously better, in my eyes a 5770 wouldn't give him that satisfaction of a 120 odd pound upgrade.
Imo I would gather a few more pennies and at least aim for a 5850 at least. to see any substantial upgrade.

I'de say a 4890 is a better option.

im playing a lot of cod4, would you say the 5770 would give me a good performance increase bud?

thanks for the reply guys.

4890 looks tempting.

no nvidia stuff a worthy upgrade?

not unless you could find a gtx 275 for that price :(
i went from a 8800 gts 512 to a gtx 260 and although at the time it was a good step up, i'd try and get a 275 at least now

SLI with another cheap 8800GTX not an option? they still have the VRAM to be useful at higher resolutions - and almost deffinatly faster than the 5770 in COD.

could be, but then id need to upgrade my psu to a more powerful better one and thats surely going to be around the same price as just buy a new card? once the cost of anouther GTX is thrown on top.
