Decent upgrade from an 8800GTX

I'd say 4890 if you're desperate to upgrade now with the cash you have, however I feel for more longevity you might want to save a little longer and grab yourself a 5850 :)

this is what im thinking...... but id need to wait anouther month or two.

will probably wait.

can anyone tell me what type of power these cardes consume compared to my 8800?

Depends on the game... i.e. farcry 2 8800GTX would be say ~24fps and the 5770 40fps whereas left 4 dead or COD where the 8800GTX is getting ~60fps the 5770 would be getting around 85-90fps.

sorry i must have worded what i wrote badley.

how much power in watts do these cards consume compared to the 8800?

cheers :)

The only upgrade for a 8800GTX is a 4870x2(4872) to gain any noticeable increase in gaming power, or a 5850. The 5770 is on a par or slightly slower than a 4870 and your not going to notice much of a difference.

The 8800GTX was Nvidias best GPU before the GTX260+ entered stage, thats why they re-badged it and tweaked it to creat the 9800 family, so keep your 8800GTX and give it a bit of am overclock, perhaps even buy an after market cooler for it so you can crank it some more, and meanwhile save up another £60 for a 5850 or 4872

Why would he spend more money on an after market cooler? instead of putting that money towards a better gpu, overclocking is not going to do that much for him.

Even 4870 is a fair jump from a 8800GTX in COD, as I'v had both cards.

I think the OP should sell the GTX and get a 5850 when he has enough cash.

You will see quite an improvement with a 5770 as it performs somewhere between 4870 and 260GTX. However the benefits of the 'new tech', lower power, less heat, better overclocking and Dx11 make this card an excellent buy at around £120. If you are looking for an 'amazing' difference then I'd save up for a 5850 or see where the soon to arrive 5830 comes in. Nvidia have nothing just now thats any better for the money.:D

If Dx11 interests you and you want to buy now then I'd get a 5*** card. If you're not so bothered about the newer technology (early days yet anyway) then I'd defo get then 4890. :)

I went with the 4890 and it's been great. Obviously the 5XXX range are better but until prices come back down, I'd either wait, or go with the 4890 now.

If you want to upgrade soon go for 4890 if you want dx11 save for 5850 or better.
Personally I just wouldn't move to a 5770 just for DX11 total waste imo.
