Decent upgrade from i7 2700K?

If you want to keep your current mobo then the only choice is a 3770K but it's not really worth it. Otherwise you're looking at a Sandybridge-E CPU and mobo and some serious expense. Are you doing anything that makes you need to upgrade or is it just a whim?

Depends, what are you using you PC for?

Although the 2700k is a well performing CPU and I'd only personally upgrade to a 3930k etc if the majority of the applications used would benefit from additional cores to outlay the additional expense.

Agreed, if I was looking to upgrade that rig a SSD would be on the cards, and maybe a memory lift to 1866 (look at the cheap samsung it flys at that speed:))
