I'm confused. I wanna upgrade the vidcard in the second pc from an x800XT to summat decent, but I'm confused with whats available both from ATI and NVIDIA. I want to spend around £80-£100, but what to go for? I know an X1800XT or 7800GT/X would be good, but what about the in between ones, like the GTO/GS versions?
I asked the same question regarding the X1800XL but that doesn't seem to be a worthwhile upgrade unless overclocked and I would rather leave what ever I get at stock. The res is gonna be 1280 x 1024 max, but I want to max out the details if pos and run at least 2 x AA, 4 x AF with quality settings. The yardsticks I'm using is COH and FEAR as these seem to be a real bitch to run.
Its gonna be used with an A64 3500 @ 2.4ghz, 1gig geil value at stock.
Anyone got any suggestions?

In before the X1950 pro lovers jump in.

Basically for (slightly) cheaper, then an 7900 series, for a little more (about 15 pounds) an X1950. Just get the cheaper ATI card though (connect I believe). The X1950 is faster, and probably the better Value for money :)

Yeah if you can stretch to an extra £17 then get the Connect3D x1950pro, will handle Fear etc... maxed out in 1280x1024 no probs, i played it on my x1800 XT 512mb on a stock 3500+ maxed with 2xAA/16xAF in 1280x1024 fine, ran sweet as, and the x1950pro is not that much slower. :)

Well it looks like with the release of these new 8600 vicards, there might be some bargains (read ppl off loading their vidcards for these). I'll hang fire for a bit and see what what appears in MM in the next few weeks. :)
Might even be able to snag an x1900 version for good money, heres hoping.
