Im currently using Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate and it takes 50mins to convert a 2.1gb movie to xbox 360 xvid, and the program only uses 15% of CPU when i have the program to set use all my cores? like wtf

Xilisoft is pretty decent actually. Have you upgraded to the latest version 6 which utilises CUDA? At any rate Freemake is an awesome (free) alternative that has a lovely UI, fairly powerful features, and can also use CUDA, 2 pass encodes etc.

I've been using Xilisoft for years. Never had problems. If it's not using up all your cores then it's probably a crappy outdated codec.

All my transcodes use up pretty much 100% on all four cores. For me, an episode of Family Guy takes about 15 minutes to convert form 720p to 480p (h.264 mp4).

Resurrecting an old thread that I found here after doing a search. I've tried Xilisoft software but I seem to get audio sync problems. I've just tried Freemake and it's that good that I'm ditching everything else so thanks!! :) It seems to do everything including ripping DVD, ripping from DVD files on hard drive as well as all manner of conversion. Also has a great UI that has a zero learning curve! Oh and it's freeeeeee :) Very rarely do I donate to makers of free software but I think I'll make an exception in this case. I'm sure conversion using handbrake with the correct settings will produce better results but what I like about Freemake is its simplicity and versatility.

You're welcome, and I'm glad you like it as much as I do. Also you found this thread via search? Congrats on being approximately the third person in the history of the internet to actually use a forum search instead of starting a new thread. :D :p

e: To be clear, I'm saying this is a good thing not having a go. lol

Hehe didn't think that at all :) I always try searching for answers before asking on forums. Glad I did in this case!

guess this makes me the 4th person to use a forum search bar. i was looking for a video converter that used CUDA, and this is just perfect for me :)
