Im thinking of upgrading my comp, at the same time ive decided as im thinking about getting a direct 10 gfx card i mite as well get vista to go along with it just have a few questions,

At some point i will be getting 4gb of ram am i right in thinking i will need vista 64 for this? prob stick with 2gb for awile because ive herd my motherboard is not so great with 4 gb which brings me onto my next question

if i get a oem vista, does it mean that it will be tied down to the motherboard that i first install it on? im asking because i will want to get a new mobo at some point and dont want to have to buy anouther operating system along with it!

thanks for any help i get

Hi buy my cookies, welcome to the forum :)

Vista 64 will make use of the full 4gb but you can still use Vista 32 but it will show & use less than 4gb (approx 3-3.5gig depending on the other hardware you are using?).

Vista OEM is tied to the motherboard so if you upgrade the mobo you'll need another Vista OEM dvd!

ok thanks for quick reply, and the welcome! :)

so i think the way to go would be to spend a little extra and get retail vista because i would save money in the long run (wont have to buy it twice after upgrade)

weigh up the price of a retail copy & the no. of copies you'll likely to use of the OEM versions, it still may be cheaper than buying the retail copy! :)

ah see your point after a quick look at some prices, could neally get 3 copys of oem for cost of 1 retail, last question seen a upgrade version a lot cheaper then full retail (dont think i can say where) says i can upgrade from xp has anybody seen one of these or is anybody using one?
