Hi

I have decided that I shall be buying an Eclipse as my new case.... In the end the extra space and cable management won the day over the other options. I have a few questions however.

1) What fans should i install in the case, I'm after decent airflow but quiet, any ideas?

2) I may upgrade my PSU as the one I have at the moment is a little long in the tooth... What would be a nice PSU to go with this case. I'm not bothered about SLI but will have 4 optical drives, 4 hard drives and would like to be able to not have to worry if I want to splash out on a new graphics card in the future. Ideally I don't want to pay to dollar, just something decent and reliable.

3) What else should I order along with the case? I guess cable ties will be needed but what else can people recommend?

Thanks

1) Yate loons are cheap and decent (decent meaning quiet, and good airflow..... and cheap ;)) Sharkoon SE 1000's are quiet too, but move a little less air. Noctua's are very quiet, but rediculously expensive.

2) Silverstone psu's are regarded as very good psu's, as are corsair psu's (the hx520 should be perfect for you) pcpnc psu's i believe are regarded as the best-of-the-best

3) Nothing else? all depends what else you need ;) - i suppose you could buy some cable braiding and heatshrink to get all of your cables looking nice and tidy, but that's your choice at the end of the day.

1) Yateloons.

2) Love my silverstone, loved the Enermax Liberty before it, both really nice cable arrangements. The Corsairs have nice looking cables but not as well arranged imo.
Beware the HX520W only has 4 sata power cables, so if all your disc and harddrives are sata you'll need to use adapters.

Sewing elastic to bungee mod the hdd's
I'd still go with this if i were buying a psu now http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084
i'd also order these whilst i were at it http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-001-AF&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=795
BUt i must say to you i don't think the eclipse should be your choice if you are going to run 4x optical and 4x hdd it's not known for it's good reverberation qualitys i would defo get yourself some sewing machine elastic or similar and bungee mod that amount of hdd its going to sound loud with all those drives when they access.

Good suggestions, thanks! Can you let me know which case you would recommend if not the eclipse? I don't like the Antec p180s cable management but would deffinately consider a Lian Li as I think they look awesome. I haven't really considered anything else to be honest.

only order extra stuff if you need it :p lighting? cable management (heatshrink + sleeving)? sound proofing?

its all extras that you dont need but can get :)

Coolermaster Cosmos
Thermaltake Armour
Coolermaster Stacker
I think better options if running lot's of drives and you want low noise.
I have the akasa eclipse and 3 hard drives and 1 optical is about as noisy as i can take, of course it can be solved by bungee mod though.
Yes the cosmos has no removeable motherboard tray and questionable Hdd cooling but i guess overall i like silence now having tasted it and here's where the cosmos shines from all the reviews and opinion you can gather.
If i were buying now and my budget was £100 I'd get the cosmos.

Thanks once again for your thoughts. I had a look at the the two cases you mention but to be honest I didn't like their appearance even though I appreciate they might be slightly better for my needs.

With regards to working with the eclipse to get it quiet, I will be probably be upgrading my hard drives to SATA ones when I upgrade my case so could do my best to get quiet ones (I don't want Raptors!). Even though I have 4 optical drives they do not get used a lot to be honest so I'm not too worried about noise from these.

I will deffinately purchase the fan mounts you suggest. Do you think the following product might further help with hard drive noise. I can't seem to find any feedback on it.

*Edit* Just saw that the above have to be mounted in a 5.25 bay, unfortunately i will not have any spare.

Can anyone else give ant tips on sound proofing of the Eclipse? I guess I will have a trawl through the owners thread when I get a spare couple of hours!

No definitely not i have one of those scythe hdd dampners and they are rubbish. And besides they go where the optical drives fit the 5'25 bay get some sewing machine elastic £2 or something mine cost for 2 long packs and bungee mount the hdd's in the 3.5 bays well worth doing as long as you dont transport your case a lot. This isn't my case btw just an example of a bungee mod.
