So I've sold all of my Nikon and Sony gear over the last few days with the intention of going entirely mirrorless. Various reason for doing so but the main was is size / wieght / bulk.

Thing is I'm really really drawn to the Samsung NX system purely because the range of lenses that it has are pretty much exactly in the range that I'd shoot in, they also aren't extortionately over priced like the Sony / Fuji variant's.

The primes on the Samsung system are also all superb, very well priced and all well built. I also played with an NX30 body yesterday and it was pretty much perfect for my hands, it also had the best EVF I've ever used.

Everything about it says buy it but for some reason (and this is the point of the thread) I'm a little hesitant about doing so, I suppose its because it's not one of the main mirror less players. Am I mad or should I just go purchase and get stuck in?

The samsung NX cameras and lenses are surprisingly nice but the system is too small, poorly supported, ignored by most 3rd parties and doesn't have a certain future.

I actually think the prices are quite high for what you get. I also consider the main advantage of mirrorless right now is smaller size systems and this is where the m43 system really shines.

Anyway, the sensors are good, the cameras good and the lenses very sharp. If it has ALL the lenses you want right now and you don't mind the system being extinct in a few years then go for it. They are surprisingly good really.

See I used to worry about things such as 3rd party support and if the system had a future but having shot Sony A Mount for so long (and kind of going through the same thing) it's become a pretty moot point to me, I'm never going to be and have no intention of being a pro so as nothing but a hobbyist non of it really matters.

I've spent the last few weeks researching as much as I could and started from a lenses perspective (totally ignoring the bodies) and the Samsung line up seems to fit my usage type and requirements almost perfectly, whats available right now doesn't really leave me wanting for anything.

I suppose I've just talked myself into the decision there haven't I? :D

Well I did it, got an NX30 + a few lenses.

1st impressions are....well wow. The body has features I didn't even think about but the built in intervalometer will come in very handy and the tilting EVF is superb.
I've only got the 18-55mm (ergh!) and the 30mm f2 currently but the 30mm is a breath of fresh air. Some more glass should be arriving today but I won't actually be able to get out to use any of this until later week .

Glad you like it. I see from the gear thread you jumped straight in!

Yeah well I've always been an in for a penny in for pound type guy! :D
I'd actually purchased the lenses before the body but managed to pick the NX30 up for £415.

Just the 45mm f1.8 to arrive and I'm sorted.

If i was to go mirrorless. i quite fancy the Sony setup. I love the A7r/s camera

They were never an option to me personally as the cost of the lenses is horrendous (to me anyway) and the size of them makes the bodies not much smaller, if any smaller than my previous gear. I also dont need the high ISO performance that FF sensors offer.

Lovely bodies though and the image quality from the A7s is astonishing.

Well I've had a little more time with it today and I'm really impressed with the touchscreen, as it's capacitive its very sensitive and the implementation is spot on. 1 touch to choose the AF point and another to choose the metering point, its a superb feature and one which I'll find very useful!
