I Didnt know whether it was concave or not but i gave t a go anyway, I only had 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit sand paper so it took ages!!! :o

Heres how it looks:

I know that going above 600grit is probaly a waste of time but the lowest i had was 1500 so i didnt have much choice :(

Temps: Dropped by a whopping..........2 degrees!!!

Ben

Thnks gt, took ages i honestly dont know but im guessing at least 2 hours, could have really done with 400grit to start with :) Just realised i forgot to plug in the CPU fan :o :o So temps should be a bit lower ;)

Nice one mate! I've made that mistake a couple of times too! :D

Let us know how you get on! Bet your load temps are now closer to the 7-10 degrees you'd expect! ;)

Good going!

Dropped 2 degrees off idle and and 5 degrees off load, not too bad :) Not fully tested load tho ran orthos for a couple of mins stayed around 52oC

Did my E6300 only a few weeks ago myself. Got her down to the copper with some 400 grit then used 1200 grit for the mirror finish. Took some pictures of my garden outside by using it as a mirror :D

I'll see if I can post pics in a bit. Took me about 15-20 minutes in total. 400 grit for 8 minutes and 1200 for another 8. Took about 2-3 degrees off idle temps on my old akasa955. Didn't test load though. Put my Noctua CPU in there though and it never goes over 41 :)

Used to reach 55ish on the akasa.

EDIT: That's on stock speeds though! Gonna probably be over 50 when I finally get a working P5N. :D

lol, I cant believe you had the patient to lap it with 1500 grits paper :D I started up with 400 grits then swapped to 240 after 5 mins of getting no where.

Very nice job there

I'm going to buy a lapping kit in the next few days with some WC stuff, it has 1 A4 sheet of each of the following:

Wet n Dry 400 Grit
Wet n Dry 800 Grit
Wet n Dry 1000 Grit
Wet n Dry 1500 Grit
Wet n Dry 2000 Grit
Wet n Dry 2500 Grit

Will this be enough to lap my CPU and waterblock?

I got that kit, worked a treat, you don't need to get it mirror finish but the OCD/competitive streak in me had to do it...lol.
