Basically i have been looking at the absurd prices for 125cc bike and figured i'm 21 and may as well do at least a normal test or the DAS.

now...
1. Am i right in thinking the DAS is being phased out with the new motorcycle test rules, or am i just making that up?
2. What is the pass rate like for a DAS nationally?
3. What bikes are out there that are restricted to 33bhp that are not 2 stroke 125cc, a mate told me about a suzuki goose, and i have seen people here mention bandits of some sort...is that a restricted bike, and is this a route i want to take? (assuming i do not for some reason go DAS)

thanks

Any info not covered lately more than appreciated.

1. - As far as I knew all they are doing is making it so that you have more practice on a bike off a public road, learning stuff, and it costs more than the current DAS.

I'm in two minds about when to get my DAS, on the one hand I can get it before Oct and have it quickly, cheaply and easily, and on the other I can wait till after Oct and spend more money, but get more out of it.

I was looking at the cost of DAS and depending on where you go it can be basically £400+ which includes the CBT etc. which is a very good deal to me...I just need the money. :p

the problem is i have never ridden a bike with gears and my only port of call is mopeds etc so i think i will need at least the 6 day course which is about £600 :(

Having never, ever ridden a motorbike, I passed first time after the CBT and 3 days of DAS training, followed by the test. Easy peasy. Went and bought a Z1000 2 days later. :P

But, as always, you really start learning after you pass. I passed a couple of weeks ago, and it's been awesome fun so far.

And to answer your questions:

1. No - there's just going to be more things you'll need to do to pass.

2. My instructor claimed his DAS course pass rate was 83%. Claimed the area average was 60%. This could be complete BS.

I did my training with 1 other person. He was slow to pick things up, struggled to keep pace the entire time, was scared to go above 55mph and had balance issues. After a few days he was up to scratch, but failed the test due to lack of life savers. With the CBT + 15 hours of road time with the instructor shouting at you, you'll be surprised how quickly you pick things up. :)

I didn't know what they were prior to training either. They're the over shoulder check to look at the blind spot before you commit yourself to changing direction. Ie, before pulling out to overtake, lifesaver. Turning right, life saver when moving to the right hand lane, then right again before turning.

Similar story here, never even sat on anything bike like, but did my CBT in a day, and I'm booked in for a 3 day DAS course in a few weeks time - Instructor says it won't be a problem :)

If your 21 just do your DAS and get any bike you want - CB/Hornet, Fazer, Bandit, SV... All recommended at some point as "good" first bikes

1 of the changes after oct is doing stops ect @ 40 mph instead of 30 mph
this means a lot of test centres will be shuting
so try and do it before oct incase your local test place aint there and you have to travel a long way
