Well ive pretty much just finished my IB exams and finally getting into gear about what my plans are for next year. If anyone doesnt know that the IB is, it is a 6th form type course that is like A-levels but supposably (dont know spelling lol) better as you learn far more subjects, in total its 6 which consitsts of english, a science (i picked biology, wish i hadnt), maths, and then 3 others, i choose ITGS, Business and management :S, and spanish.

Well anyway with the course you have to do extra things which my mind does not agree with, TOK ARGH! about how you know you know you know, and get a minimum of 21 i think points to pass which i knew i wasnt going to get so i dropped to doing just the lower level stuff and just coming out with a certificate instead of a diploma.

God im talking non-sense, anyway the reason i chose the course was becasue i had no idea on what i wanted to do, but now i do, kinda late i know but someone finally pushed me, the girlfriend, to realise what it was, and it was IT, well things such as webbuilding, and that sort of work.

So now im stuck with not knowing what to do with myself as id like to go to university in september 2007, and in this year do a simple course that will jsut increase my chances of getting into uni next year. Well im looking into a course at my local college and it seems all and well but im unsure on what id really get out of this, and would like advice on if this is what i should do for a future carrier, in programming websites and the likes.

this is a description of the course:

Year 1: Computer platforms, Programming concepts, Database design concepts, Networking concepts, Personal skills development, Website design, Human computer interface, Work experience. Year 2: Systems analysis, Information systems project, Networking technology, Data analysis and design, Information systems, MS Office solution development, Project management, Visual programming.

Special course features:
- Open access to networked computer terminals and the internet
- Tuition in small groups
- Tutors with industry experience
- Opportunity to develop key vocational specialisms according to your own interests
- Develop links with employers in various ways, but specifically with work experience, in order to apply skills and knowledge gained within the qualification to a practical working scenario

Duration:
2 years full-time

Entry:
120 UCAS points through the study of A Levels, National Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject plus 5 GCSE passes at grades A-C (including Maths and English) or equivalent experience for mature students

As im not 100% sure on what it is i'd like to do in the future, im hoping this course will give me lots of training on many differnt areas, seems to do that dont you think?

Aswell in the little free time i have had recently i have been teaching myself lots of new skills and downloading videos training for things like, PHP and MySQL, CSS, HTML, Photoshop, softimage.

Ok lost the plot a little but bascially im just wondering what y'all think of the course, will it give me lots of options for future career in computing? what would you recoomend doing after that course at uni? apperentlty if i do accetionally well i jump straight to year 2 or even year 3 :).

thanks in advance chaps. Sorry for the very long winded post. Im a confused sole :p

The course your looking at has a lot of modules that appear to be around the same content of my Computer Science course i am doing now (final year! woo).

They sound good, and "sound" as if it would give a very good all rounder introduction to computers and thier uses.

If you do it, do a placement year. :)

whats placement year?

what does your course involve s@njay? what are you hoping to do next? if its similiar maybe this will give me some good ideas of options available at the end

Also my mum was talking to me about this and she seems to think it would be best for me to get into the business after maybe even just the 2 years course at the college instead of doing 2 years at college then another possbily 3 years at uni. In my opinion because computing is such a big business and ever changing it would be best to forever learn it, as long as i can support myself im not too fused on what i earn for the next load of years, i just want to learn what i love and hopefully one day make it into a very successful career. What your opinions on this? would i be best to continue learning at uni after, or get into the business as soon as possible?
