I'll add that setting voltages manually, Vcore and Northbridge in particular, would be a really good idea before increasing fsb. Itll run faster on auto, but put increasingly mental voltages through things and the temperatures will get ridiculous.
My mate hits 2.8ghz on his q6600 at stock voltages, and stock cooler, but runs into temperature trouble as soon as he increases the core voltage. I recommend reading up on this for quite a while, then overclocking very slowly. Getting a system stable when you've gone from 2.4 straight to 3.6ghz is a nightmare.
On the bright side, your hardware is spot on. The p35 overclocks very nicely, and the e0 q6600 you've got is an excellent overclocker. It's also quite resistant to abuse, it'll sit happily at far higher voltages than my quad core will. Your ram is good up to 3.6ghz processor speed before you need to start overclocking the ram itself. Happy days
The multiplier thing confused me too when I got my new parts. Just a power saving sort of thing. Makes it hard to see how stable your OC is running, so like Lelouch said, disable EIST and C1E
The way forward is to establish a good clock with them Both switched off & then once stable you can switch them back on. This method needs Serious care though as in my own experience they don't cope well with high clocks & mess your fan speeds about causing heat peaks & possible system locks during intense use.
I Always keep them switched off myself.
If you want to switch them on after your clock then monitor the fan speeds & temps Heavily until you are Completely confident it works Perfectly.
Hmm i just clocked it to the highest id like to achieve to see what happens. Thats a 3.0ghz clock (333*9) with stock voltage. Upon reboot bios says its running at 3.0ghz yet it failed to POST as no hard drive was detected! Is that strange? Somehow my higher FSB magically removed my HDD? Back to default now obv
Also i can find C1E to disable but not this EIST people are mentioning, is it in the same menu as the C1E option?
Another also. Should i be doing anything with the RAM settings or leaving them on AUTO?
