Hi all, would welcome some advice on my next monitor upgrade. I currently have a BenQ 2420XL for a little over two years and would like to move on to
something better. I have a pretty broad taste in games, but do like the combination of racing sims and 3D Vision. I've narrowed down my options to three possibilities:

1) Get another two BenQ monitors for a 3D vision surround setup, presuming both would need to be 120Hz and not 144Hz to match the existing one. However, this option is costly (500 pounds or so) and investing this amount in two year old tech might not be so wise? Also I'm not sure how convenient it is to switch monitor configuration for different games - will it turn out to be a pain in the ass? Current GPU is a single 770, so I would probably get another and run it in SLI.

2) Second option is again to keep my existing monitor but this time as a secondary monitor (for 3D Vision) and to get a non-3D 29" ultra wide screen monitor such as this one.

Am I right in thinking this looks like a good option to rival the peripheral vision offered by two additional surround monitors?

Downside is having to physically move monitors around when I want some 3D vision gaming (I use trackIR and tend to perch the camera on the monitor).

3) Third option is to sell my BenQ and make do with one large 27" 3D Vision/GSync monitor. I think a 27" monitor needs a bit more res than 1080p, so the Asus Swift Rog looks to be the only option here. The steep price makes the investment difficult to justify and it might not offer the immersion of an ultra wide setup.

I'm favouring option 2 at present - comments welcome!

Without hesitation ROG 144hz 1440p. G cards arent advance enough for 4k ( which is currently 60hz anyway) 1440p sweet spot.

IMO ultrawide/21.9 is amazing compared to 16.9/16.10 aspect ratio, just so much more immersive for gaming and especially for films (no black bars ftw!). Not to mention the colours and image quality in general of IPS compared to TN is superior.

But if your main usage is gaming then gsync/144HZ will probably be better suited for you, smoother, no tearing or input lag etc. Although for racing games and MMO/RPG stuff, this is where ultrawide really shines. 144HZ is only really good for quick paced FPS games imo.

Unless you plan on using the built in speakers on the ASUS monitor, you would be better of saving yourself £100 and going for the LG or AOC version.

Thanks for the replies. The missus is getting me a new desk for my office as a birthday present which will have acres of room - so a nice big monitor sprung to mind straightaway! I won't be using the new monitor for watching movies or twitch FPS games, it will be mostly racing sims with the odd RPG or RTS for good measure. So having mulled over it some more, I think a larger single monitor that supports 3D vision makes the most sense to me, as it really adds another layer of immersion to racing games. I don't see anything on the horizon that offers the same spec as the ROG Swift (1440p and 144Hz), so I may have to start saving :)
