Hi all you wise ones ;-)

First time poster in motors so please be gentle !

I have a 2003 xtype 2.1 petrol which gave up the ghost on me yesterday and left me stranded, diagnosis from aa is fuel pump ! I am thinking this could get expensive..... Car is only worth around a grand if that to trade ! So.....

Do I cut my losses and get a focus budget 2k max or repair the xtype but not sure if the pump is a jag part or ford part at the moment...

Also don't really know enough about cars to buy private so would be from a dealer as at least then I have a little comeback....

All suggestions welcome.

Many thanks

Teej

The first thing I guess is to get a proper diagnosis and price then take it from there. The AA guys can be a bit hit and miss (to be fair they often don't have a lot to go on).

If you've had a look at autotrader and the repair value is.close to the cars worth then.it really comes down to whether you feel the car is likely to break significantly again if you fix it or whether you'd rather recover a little bit.of money on it as spares repair. Of you do decide to get rid of it put it on eBay with an hi est description of the fault you'll likely get a reasonable sum back

Fuel pump dies, quick...best buy a new car!

Reality - take it to your local garage, get a quote for whatever the fix may be and then see about cost of repair v buying another car.
