Hi guys any opinions are greatly appreciated

My current specs are

i7 2600
120Gb M4ssd
Asus P8H67-M PRO
16gbRam
Sapphire HD7950

I got the PC last August and the card last month and planned on eventually going Crossfire with either a nice 120hz 3D or Eyefinity set up later on in the year all mainly for Battlefield 3. I wanted to get 120hz and the framerates to match that and I can see no other PC game on the horizon that is going to require more power than BF3 at least not for a while.

But have now realized that my motherboard may not be sufficient as it would only run one card at x4 in my second pci slot.

This and with now the 680 arriving I am unsure what to do.
BF3 runs fine on my 7950 avg around 60-70 but I know Nvidas run better with BF3 and every frame counts especially if aiming for the magic 120fps.

So now I don't know what to do I'm happy with my comp at the moment but feel I may have rushed into purchases and it may not be as future proof as I first believed.

So a few convoluted questions, should I:

a) Sell my 7950 card and motherboard and get new mobo bundle of OCs & a 680 eventually going to sli? (Basically start again:( )

b) Keep current 7950 Just get new motherboard and get another ATI 7series when prices fall

c) Keep what I've got in PC for now and get either nice 120hz 3d monitor or Eyefinity setup and sort out motherboard and card's in the future.

I realize this makes little sense sorry as I'm trying to be quick in work.

Hope you can help

Thanks

You'v got as fast a PC as there is going (within reason)

Why would you want to upgrade so soon?

Option c is my recommendation.

Although I would choose option d if there was one.

ie sit tight, unless your not happy with current monitor, becuase upgrading to a 120hz monitor when the card you have want deliver those frames isnt worth it.

Also for 3D you would have been better of with Nvidia.

Option (c) as well for me or don't bother doing anything. The problem is you haven't got an i7-2600K so can't overclock your CPU either unfortunatley. I would hang on to you 7950 and overclock that for the time being. When Z77 motherboards hit the shelves you could grab one of those perhaps. Stick with what you have.

Im my eyes a gpu should have a 2 year life span.

A cpu a 4-5 year life span.

Sounds very fair. Hoping my i7 @4.2GHz is good for another two years or so and my GTX470 OC for another year!...looks at 470 in disappointment!:(

The 7950 is a cracking card remember, when overclocked it'll match a stock 7970 and GTX 680 pretty much.

Cheers for the fast replys guys.

It's true I really have no need to upgrade at the moment. No game has been a problem I just had that aim of eventually getting a 120fps in BF3.

I have a bonus coming soon and was considering either going crossfire or getting a monitor then read up on my mobo which disappointed me a bit and that I didn't get the k version of the 2600 and just got me thinking that I rushed into my purchases maybe :(.

I think my best bet at the moment is as a few above said c) I just wanted to make sure before I start posting 120hz 3D or Eyefinity threads! ;)

I have my 7950 at 925 and 1375mhz apparently the stock 7970 speeds if IIRC? Temps 52 idle 81 max and really quiet. But I really don't notice much difference in framerates to be honest

It has been great so far no problems at all, was just a tad disappointed in BF3 performance tbh I really did expect to much but thats my own fault. But I have (misplaced?) hopes for upcoming ATI drivers to help

Just imagine you had not read a review and just played BF3 without displaying the framerates.

I think you would have found the experience perfectly acceptable. Even superman could not detect higher framerates than 60 FPS, and according to research anything over 27FPS is fine also.

You have a very good card there, and there is absolutely no reason to upgrade unless you use something that is heavily dependent on Nvidia cards.

Which you obviously don't as you bought a 7950.
