Right morning all,

As you'll know, I love my macbook, but i'm finding myself more and more drawn to the macbook pro - especially the 2.5ghz 15" which is an absolute steal at HE prices...

So, I suppose my question(s), as I sit here in a cafe in gay paris are:

I know that the main benefits, apart from the larger screen, bigger hdd, more ram as standard is the dedicated graphics - will I notice a lot of difference?

I'm mainly using my macbook as an all in one machine, including loads of photoshop, since I bought my camera(!) - obviously the MBP was designed with the creative professional in mind, purely as a consumer, will this be overkill?

Even though I swore that I'd never use bootcamp/parallels, I'm finding the idea of it more appealling... rather than carry my work laptop and my mac, I could simply install XP on it and eliminate the need for two! I know, from previous threads that people like this method, so I think I'll try it.. No questions there.

Are they any r(e)tailers who do part exchange?

Anyway - cheers for any advice given.. I'm still not totally sold on the idea myself!!

Tom

I dont really want to sell it on 'that auction site'.

As for the MM, even though I'd prefer it to go to a good home - I dont think there's a market on a predominantly pc based forum! You'll agree LordSplodge!! :p

No places do part exchange that I know of, your best bet is eBay, you will get most of what you paid, back on there. There will probably be little interest in the MM.

Yes you will, as you said you get better RAM, HDD etc and they are very quick machines. Although you need to ask yourself what is the MacBook lacking in that you would benefit with a MacBook Pro?

The MacBook Pro copes very well with photoshop, and with photographers in mind the 15" screen will be a benefit. The MacBook Pro is a very good all round machine too.

Agree, it makes sense really, plus the MacBook Pro runs Windows faster than any Pc laptops. (Or did last year, in a PC test thingy)

Sorry to highjack the thread - I am looking to upgrade my 6 month old MacBook with the first MBP.

Few questions:
1. How much am I likely to get for my MB (with 2GB Ram) on eBay?
2. Glossy or matte screen for MBP?
3. Best way to transfer all my stuff across, considering I've got to sell my MB first to afford my MBP?

Cheers,

Depends how much "stuff" you've got. Get a stonkingly huge external HD if there's that much - also providing a backup drive in future.

I personally aren't seeing the benefits of the MacBook to MacBook Pro in terms of performance. 2.4Ghz vs 2.5Ghz would be negible, RAM and HD are upgradable items.

The only real reason is the larger screen size and dedicated graphics but as everyone has said it all depends which factor swings it for you. I'll be looking to purchase a MacBook before I go back to uni in September and I'll be sticking with the MacBook 2.4Ghz. £300 difference for the Pro model but at the moment I can't justify it... :o

If screen size is an issue - what about external monitor? I'll be hooking up to a 24" screen at home and have the portability of the 13" :)

Too much PC love here. Way back when I had to sell my iLamp and it was like losing a member of the family. Selling a Mac is serious business.
