Decisions decisions !

The gtx280 will be faster. Don't bother paying the premium for an oc version just get the cheapest gtx260 216 you can get and clock it yourself. With a good overclock on it it will take over the speed of a stock gtx280. The gtx260's can usually reach core clocks over 700. With prices as they are atm its really a no brainer as to which card to get.

The 280 is the more powerful card, it also has more stream processors but for the money, especially the way things are atm, get the 216 260 (BFG as a god example). Includes a 10 yr warranty. Can't be bad.

SSC @ 626MHz is going to be slightly behind a stock 280GTX - you need 650-680MHz on the 260 MAXCORE to match a stock 280GTX.

I don't personally see the 280GTX as being worth the extra money over a 260 - but if you play at 1920x or above and like lots of FSAA and are mostly playing very recent titles then it might just be worth it.

TBH as I see it the choice is 260 MAXCORE or 4870X2/GTX295 - if your gonna get playable fps with the 280 you will with the 260 maxcore too and if the 260 maxcore won't do then your going to need the X2/295.

Cheers folks, I do play @ 1920x1200 so I was thinking the 280 might be more suitable.

Might be worth waiting for the the 285 tho ?

Hi Sipha, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 280 doesn't offer enough of a performance boost over the Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 to warrant spending the extra £80 on it so I would personally look at getting the GTX 260 Core 216 such as this one here. There is also this card here which is pretty much identical in performance to the GTX 280 as you can see here but is also around £40 cheaper. :)

I think I'm selling my GTX 260-192 to buy the new 55nm 260-216. They should in theory be able to achieve some fantastic clock speeds. Already had a lot of interest in it for £140 + P&P; a decent return before they slump in price.

Anyway, I reckon these 55nm 260s should be clocking to speeds that keeps them up with OC 280s. Atleast until the 55nm 280s come out:p Bargain at £210~

well i bought the evga 260 scc but it was only £17 more than the zotac but i got farcry 2 with it in the box and its clocked to 750/1500/2500 cant go wrong with it

Seems like a waste of money tbh for little in the way of a performance boost but if ya have the cash then why not. The gtx260 is already a great clocker can't see the new ones being that much better.

Bought my 260 new for £170, so losing £30 on it. EVGA SSC GTX 260 55nm = £220~

Anyway, not sure if I'll do this now, just splashed some serious cash on a new SLR camera today:D

The theory behind the improved OCing is the less heat it will give off, may be only 20Mhz more on the core but if people are hitting 750 already, it will be a nice boost from the 710 core I have on the 192 version.
