Thinking of upgrading my graphics card, but money's tight. Keep tossing the idea around in my head but can't make my mind up.

At the moment I've a GTX 260 896MB. I plan to play the next generation of games to come out, new Elder Scrolls game Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Diablo 3 etc etc. Doubt the 260 is really going to hack it.

Is it worth forking out £80 for a GTX 460 768MB? Whilst faster I think the downgrade is memory is going to be an issue? OR, fork out the extra and spent £140 of a GTX 560?

Or try to make the most of the 260 and hope the faster cards drop in price as new offerings come out?

What's the maximum you're prepared to spend? What resolution do you game at btw?

Assuming it's 1920x1200 or lower, this is worth the extra twenty or so pounds, and is about as good as it gets for the cash. At stock it does reasonably well against the 6950, and overclocks like crazy to 570 / 480 performance.

If that is more than you were thinking of spending, then a 560 or 6870 would be fine.

if you are going to spend £140 on the 560, then honestly you may as well spend the extra £20 on the Ti version as it's quite a bit better (560 non-Ti is just a high clocked 460, basically).

however you could go with the £80 768MB 460 to tide you over until the radeon 7000 series is out, and then upgrade to one of them. you could probably sell yout 460 then for maybe £30 - £50 so you wouldn't be spending too much extra, but you'd have a better card to last you until Q1 2012 which is when the new cards will likely come out.

I'd be looking at something with at least 1GB of memory, maybe even more if you can afford a card with more. my 460 1GB is maxxed out playing the BF3 beta. According to Afterburner I use 995MB of Graphics memory also at 1680x1050. Not sure if that is the maximum or it's just coincidence though.

Well I bit the bullet and have ordered the OcUK GTX 460 768MB. Pretty good price with the warranty and all, and as said, still a good performance increase over my GTX 260.

Just need to decide what to do with my 260 now, I checked on eBay and they're worth naff all!!

If you have a decent PSU you can use your GTX 260 as a PhysX card, eg if you're looking at playing the new Batman game.

It is rather unfortunate how fast hardware depreciates in value..

GTX 460 arrived earlier so popped it in. Fired up BF3 and it chaged all the settings to high. Looks a million times better now, and I'm still getting 30+ FPS, so overall very pleased :)
