Hi,
I've just built a 3570K machine, and have a MSI 7850 TF III on backorder...
This is my first desktop in a couple of years, the driver for building it was the D3 release on 15 May, and me getting sick of Skyrim graphics on the PS3.
I'm now thining about what to do if there's no stock of the 7850 by Thursday this week (would like the card installed, OCd and stable before next Tuesday if possible)... So, do I:
- wait it out, as the 7850 has great performance for the price once overclocked, and put up with D3 on the HD4000 for a while
- stump up another £110 for the MSI 7950 TF III instead, and order it now
- see what price the 670s cost on Thursday (this is assuming there'll be available stock of non-reference cards). From what I've read they should costs around the current price of the 7950s
I'm just running a single 1920x1200 screen, and the 7850 will be capable of doing what I need (D3 and Skyrim at this stage), which is why I ended up going for that card to start with.
My PSU is an AX650. Not sure if that makes much difference, as it should handle pretty much any non-SLI setup at this stage unless I'm mistaken.
I'm leaning towards waiting to see if there's 7850 stock on Thursday morning, and if not, ordering the 7950 (unless there are 670s available that offer better price/performance)... on the other hand, if I've already made the decision to go with a 7950 I could order it today (knowing my luck the 7850 will be shipped if I decide to go with something else
).
What do you think?
