So I've been contemplating a car change for a while now. Currently driving a 2011 Seat Ibiza 1.2Tsi Sport, which I've had since new and has 65k miles on the clock.

My daily commute is a 40 mile round trip.

I'm looking at something that ticks all the boxes. Looks, efficient and nippy. Max I can really stretch to is £15.5k (assuming a p/x value of £3k for mine).

My demographic is male, single, 30.

The main car on my radar at the moment is a BMW 120/125 d. M sport trim is a must, as I hate the front on the other models. Cruise control is a must as now I've had it I couldn't live without it. Any suggestions for alternatives welcome.

Next is the quandary I'm in. My Ibiza needs 4 new tyres. Over the next month I have to do about 1k extra miles than I would normally. If I don't change my car before the trips I will need to get the new tyres, which seems dead money if I'm to change the car soon after.

Do I change the car after the long journeys and buy the new tyres, with the thinking that it's not going to depreciate the car much having already done 65k miles. Or do I try and change the car before then, potentially rushing a purchase and not getting the best deal I could, but not having to fork out for 4 new tyres? It will also mean putting miles on the new car.

Thoughts, ideas and opinions on a postcard please.

A new set of tyres on an Ibiza cant cost more than £200 surely - just do that and avoid the rush. Will make the car more saleable (slightly) anyway - if you've got 15k+ lying around then it cant be that much of a quandry!

Seating 4 is a must, tax and insurance, so long as not extortionate aren't a major concern. I don't really want it doing less than what the Seat does on MPG though, which is 50 on my daily commute.

If only I had 15k lying around :P . It would be partially financed, the figure comes from my budgeting of workable monthly outgoing based on the finance.

I am most likely in a minority here, but why do you feel the need to change the Ibiza at all? If it works, why not keep it? Consumables are a fact of life for any car owner, it shouldn't warrant replacement.

Having once changed discs and pads on a car I owned before deciding to sell it a week later, I'd say that changing your tyres is a waste of money. You have a healthy budget so it's not like you're going to struggle to find a nice car whether you buy it now or later.

So its probably about 1 month of finance payment then to get new tyres :)

This is very true. It also means I can look at a private sale for which I will get a darn site more than part ex and so probably works out better overall. Decision made I think.

The reason for change is purely because I want something different to drive after 5 years of the same vehicle.
