Declaring a car 'off the road'

This is a question for my friend regarding her fiesta. She's selling it but wants to declare it off the road so she can claim the tax back (i think that's the case, anyway).

All she wants to know is whether a parking bay is considered 'off the road'. It's in a student village estate and in a parking bay, but the bay isn't reserved for her house or anything like that. However, you do need a permit to park there. Does this constitute 'off the road'? Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the off the road thing but i would question her logic claiming back tax and then trying to sell a car that someone can't test drive and will look less desirable to buyers.

I would include the tax price in the cost of the car tbh ;)

Well like i said, not sure if that's what she's doing so ignore that. She said something about a garage coming to collect it. As i remember it was damaged by some kids a few weeks ago, no idea if she's selling it to the garage or what.

I think it has to be private land, if its on a car park then its in danger of causing a hazard.

I declared my car of the road and I had to put it on my drive.

It does have to be private land, but it's got nothing to do with causing a hazard. A car with no tax is no more of a hazard than a car with tax. It isn't going to eat small children becuase it suddenly doesnt have valid tax :p

If my car would eat small shell suit wearing children then i would quite happily keep it untaxed.

Sounds like it needs ot be on a Drive (As in owend by you) or its still on the road.
