Right, I had an accident in september and my insurance is up for renewal. However, the claim is still being disputed by a third party and they are claiming for whiplash. It was my fault and I ended up writing 2 cars off.

As the claim is ongoing, do I have to declare it at the time of renewal? I don't know the value of the claim as its not resolved. What do I do?

I would have thought, as the case has not been closed yet and the outcome unknown, you wouldn't have to state it. then again i may be wrong.

Not sure - I think you would though

If you have an accident but don't claim then strictly speaking you should declare it (even though most don't)

As a claim is in progress I'd definitely declare it, especially if it's your fault. Not sure what happens if you move companies though - whether you continue to deal with your old company or whether the new company takes over

Tried ringing them and asking?

Don't be pathetic. I would call them if I can but I am at work and unable to right now. Other people have managed to be helpful so why can't you?

I dont want to get into an argument. I would have thought it would be easier to ask the people who will definately know the answer. So far you have got a 'don't know' and a 'yes' (well it starts with 'don't know'). I was merley suggesting that the best thing to do is to ring the insurance company and ask them. Otherwise you will never know the correct answer.

And if you are at work and cannot ring but have internet access - send them an e-mail.

Sorry if you think I was being 'pathetic'... i was trying to make sure you got an answer to your question that would be 100% correct.

You will need to tell them i would think. I had someone who drove into the front of my car last year and only damaged the amber bumper light. I phoned my insurance to let them know incase he didn't pay out for the light lens. He did and there was no claim made but when reinsuring my car I didnt mention it but the woman on the phone asked me about it(must be on the database) and said it had to be declared as it was an accident, claim or not.

yeah u will deffo have to declare it cuz its stil pending

i have had months and months of ball ache trying to sort mine

If he can spend time on the internet posting on a forum, surely he can make a quick call to your insurance company

You have to declare it. They also charge mad premiums for an unsettled claim..

Took 2 1/2 years to sort an injury claim against me, so get ready for some lovely insurance quotes.

Don't tell me what I can and can't do please. You really have no idea...

commited: How much did it affect your premium? My renewal quote that came through yesterday was rather painful as it was. I love the way you can get shafted by insurers yet there is nothing whatsoever you can do.
