So i declined all my grades, i talked through it with my tutor and both agreed over it but i still think back at it.

I didnt get grades i wanted in my AS which was a C in electronics, D in physics, and E in maths.

they were all within 10 marks off the next grade,in electronics and physics there was one module which i didnt do well in. im going to retake those and hopefully i will get a BBD(130 ucas points) for my AS.

anyway im going to quit work and got a private tutor for maths.

I wish to go to either Coventry or Hertforshire (maybe kingston as failsafe).
they both want 260 points for automotive engineer. if not i want to do motorsport engineering.

anyway so as my AS wasnt what i wanted i declined them and im going to ask my teachers about predicted grades. Im going to ask all my teachers about what they might predict me if i continue as how im performing right now. So far i have handed in all homeworks in time, understood the work im doing and try to go over what weve done on that day.

My question is, did i do the right thing to decline my grades? will UNIs like conventry consider taking me, or would they feel suspicous and not accept me?

also if i do motorsport engineer what are the chances of getting a decently paid job after the course?

Thankyou for reading,
Shimy

I declined some of my grades and redid them. I got an unconditional offer at Coventry doing Auto Eng (BEng) and today is my first day at the Uni!

You do have to be good at Maths though so make sure you can cope. I did Maths, Further Maths and Physics for A levels.

Surely if you are going to take those subjects on to A2 it doesn't make a difference whether you have accepted the grades or not? In the end you'll have those A-levels and it won't matter whether you got the marks from the AS or A2 modules.

its because i want to apply this year. and unis consider if your worthy from the AS grades. if you decline them, they cant see those grades and all they can tell if your worthy or not is from the predicted grades. so thats why i did that.

EDIT. so saitrix. whats Coventry university like? Im going to see it next open day.

Liking it so far!

Priory Hall is so well placed in the Uni. Put it this way, bus stop is 50m, 5 min walk to engineering building and 5 min walk to centre and supermarket.

The eng department impressed me when I went round it, some Uni's seem to do mech eng with a bit of auto tacked onto the side whereas the course is all round auto at Cov. Also one useful thing is that formula student is ran at the uni, this can help with getting a job afterwards a lot. Also look at doing a sandwich course as normally the company you go with for your year in industry is the one you go with when you finish your course.

Coventry itself isn't pretty, but I personally don't care about that kind of thing. For me it is real easy to get to, but don't expect to be able to take your car when you are in the halls.

Edit - When I see Lashout_UK on msn I will direct him this way. He is in his 3rd year of Auto Eng at Cov.

Edit 2 - I retook a module from each of my subjects.

Ok then. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there are a huge amount of people that retake AS modules in their A2 year. In my school I think I was in the minority that didn't do it. I think all but 1 or 2 people from the ICT class retook at least one AS module.

but i have done is also declined my grades, now unis cant see my actual AS grades. just thought if that is a negative or not.

EDIT. i hate being dumb :(

i see. thanks for the quick reply. i really would like to work in the motorsport industry so im seriously considering it. maybe if i get enough to do auto eng i will take that. otherwise motorsport.

and did you do maths a level? if so how easy did you find it?

I did Maths and Further Maths. I found it not too bad really, but I have always been able to pick up stuff quite quickly. Earlier you grasp the concept of differenciation and integration, the easier you will find the course as a whole. It is so based on that in the 2nd year.

bah, all of you guys doing Auto Eng at Cov, The 4 year MEng Auto Eng Design was my top choice, and i really wanted to do it, but then Warwick phoned and asked me to go there telling me they're the best. Now i'm just a pawn in a class of 300. Whereas from what I hear and read Cov's auto course is one of the best and you get more practical.. Lemme know how it goes guys! (Also if you ever wander down to Leamington let me know!)

i hate you clever people

i try and i try in maths but nothing makes sence.. i just follow the rules.. (in most parts that is)

Maths is something that once you do get your head around, it clicks and you just get it I have found in the past.

Universities don't just accept you on the grades you get on AS level, they'll also consider your actual predicted grades for your full A-Levels. Do coventry still not do interviews for their engineering courses? As I applied to do Mech Eng there 3 years ago, and I just got offered a place with a stupidly low UCAS points target, which kind of put me off a little, plus I liked Birmingham a lot better, though Coventry now have a great reputation for their Automotive stuff now.

I didn't get an interview and I was given an unconditional offer. :)

Ah the joys of Coventry :D How was your first night? Was a bit mad yesterday as we arrived late for the pub crawl so tagged on with some random 2nd/3rd years holding their own unoffical tour. Lost them after the first pub heh, tagged up with the actual tour but got bored so headed to lava/ignite. Was alright.

Its funny moving from warwick last year to coventry because the grade requirements/standard of cov are so much lower but hey, at least its not full of stuck up pretentious ****s lol.

Work hard on your maths. With you getting a tutor it shows you have the correct attitude. Once you grasp the main parts in maths the rest should all fall into place. So which bits do you find hard at the moment? Also at the start of the course they will get everyone to the same level of maths, so if you don't get certain stuff, that is the last proper chance to grasp it.

What modules you doing in Maths?
