Dedicated home server

I have a spare system q6600 8800GTX 4gb DDR2 ram with windows vista. Also in the new year i will have 50mb virgin broadband.

I fancy trying to set up a dedicated server from it, what would i need to do and pay for, would i need licence's off the game owners etc?

Also will i casue me problems when i want to play on my new computer with the other pc running all the servers?

Ah rite so my upload will need to be spot on, any idea's on what min upload speed i'd need?

hmmm i wonder if it will run a CSS 100tick 20 server, 11man match server css 100tick, 8slot l4d and eventually a 32 slot BFBC2 server? what u think am i asking to much haha?

Ok will do that sounds good! is there a way to give access to fellow admin thro some sort of control panel or will i have to run all the server config files?

Admin control to the server you mean? Or the game server? There are plugins you can use to give admin on game servers and you can give server control through Remote Desktop.

Yeah i could work out how to add the admin in game, but yes remote desktop would be great for them to get in there.

The upload on a 50mb line is no different from their other packages.

Oh is it? this is what i'm trying to work out, if its not worth me doing it then i wont.

Do you need to be very technically minded to set one up?

You don't have the direct links (or the bandwidth - if you think you're going to be able to run all those servers with decent pings, you're wrong) to other ISPs that datacentres have. If you want to host a server so badly why not just rent one? They're cheap as chips nowadays!

No the point i'm trying to make is i have a spare PC which is decent spec, very good internet connection, so was simply asking a question, we can easily afford servers hence us having a few. Just asking a question
