Hey guys!

I'm currently looking at renting a Dedicated Server and paying for it annually. The problem is that I can't figure out where to get it from! I've narrowed it down to RedStation.com or Fasthosts.co.uk because they both offer unlimited bandwidth and are well known.

Problem is, each have good and bad reviews, does anybody have experience with either of these providers in terms of Dedicated Servers? I'd be truely grateful to get some info, Google turns up thousands of conflicting opinions :(

Cheap, fast, reliable - choose any two. It's fairly obviously which two you're choosing here, companies offering decent bandwidth for cheap prices won't have the same level of resiliency or support that more expensive competitors do, it's simple economics. Fasthosts are big and you know what you're getting, of the two they're probably better but personally I wouldn't go within a mile of either...

I use rapidswitch myself... generous bandwidth allowances - but not unlimited (unless you pay for it) - not the cheapest but not overly expensive either - and I've never seen less than 10.4MByte/s (basically full 100Mbit/s) in/out available whenever I've tested.

I don't have experience with the 2 you mention but I've used "unlimited" ones of similiar offering before and at peak times I was struggling to hit 5MBit/s out going bandwidth on busy days.

We’ve got a dedicated server with Fasthosts. I’d say they are OK as long as you don’t need to contact their support – they once took several weeks to replace a failing hard disk.

Generally we get the full 100Mb/s although their traffic is often routed via Europe (their parent company is German). Quite often we see UK->UK traffic going via Amsterdam.

I wouldn't want to use them for anything business critical, but if you just need something cheap it might be OK.

Thanks guys, I'm aware of the limits tucked away in the fair usage policy and that's fine :) Really appreciate all your input, especially those of you with direct experience!
