Dedicated servers on a dual core computer

I used to love setting up a dedicated bot server for CS/DoD etc. on my other computer and joining on my main one, but I got rid of the other computer recently so I couldn't do that anymore. I tried that on one computer but it was always too jerky.

Recently I upgraded to a conroe.

Has anyone tried setting up a dedicated server with say, 24 bots in CS:S on one dual core computer, setting the server affinity to CPU 1 and the game's affinity to CPU 0, and joining from the client on the same computer? How does it play? Smooth as silk?

whats wrong with just creating a server within the game client rather than havign a dedicated and game client :confused:

Well, last time I tried it was a bt jumpy with 24 bots. That was with my old computer, though.

I ask rather than just doing it because first I will have to install HL2 which takes about 10 years, so I need to know if it's doable first.

On a Conroe you'll be able to create and join on the same computer without any problems.
