This is my old fryer. I have no idea if it's good by fryer standards, but the wattage (2800W) and oil capacity seem high. The pan takes 3L, and the basket is 14x18.5x9cm, around 2.3L. I bought a Russell Hobbs 24570 equivalent. The basket is about half to 2/3 the depth. I need a fryer of equal or greater capacity as the Silvercrest for £50 or less. The handle came off the basket, and replacement baskets are around £15, with no bending mechanism or plastic handles. I wouldn't replace it if I could buy the handle alone, and generic baskets cost half what I paid on the new fryer. I'm eyeing the Aigostar Deep Fryer, since it's a similar size and has a timer. It would be helpful to have the fryer turn off after a set time. Did I luck out and get a really good fryer for cheap ages ago? Has something happened to bring about cheap, small, low power, plastic fryers?

Hmmmmm.

Seems it's harder than you might think to find this out. Every one I've looked at so far lists the oil capacity and external dimensions, then states things like 1kg food capacity.

That "1kg" figure is absolutely meaningless.

The one I have is the more generic rectangle version I got it from Tesco and as you say I reckon the basket will be about 2.7ltrs but looking online the basket it comes with now does look smaller.

Maybe it was a general safety thing or something as I must admit mine can nearly boil over with a full basket if the oil isn't fresh.

Found that style on eBay looks bigger than usual and does actually list the basket dimensions.
That and the industrial types are a bit too long for me. I've narrowed it down to the Tower T17002, Russell Hobbs 24580 and Geepas Deep Fat Fryer. All 3L, but the baskets look small, so I'm asking for dimensions.

Turkey dinosaurs don’t take up much space. Im sure the 10L version would be plenty :D

Joke aside; Tefal Oleoclean series are very good but way over your budget it seems. Last a lifetime mind.
