Anybody planning on going to see Deep Purple next year?
I've just been told that they are touring next year through April & May.
I went to see them a few years ago at a much smaller venue - cannot for the life of me remember the line up for that gig.
Their current line up:

Steve Morse
Ian Gillan
Roger Glover
Don Airey
Ian Paice

Trying to think how close this is to their classic era line-up...as near as dammit original line up I think.

I first saw Purple in 71 with the classic line up of - Blackmore, Paice, Gillan, Glover and Lord. Saw them another 2 times and then about 74 I saw them with Coverdale and Hughes and went off them.
Steve Morse is one of my all time fave guitarists but you can't have Purple without Blackmore and Lord.

I stopped paying attention to them when Blackmore left. He might be a twenty-five caret loon, but he was always the musical driving force behind them. Last time I saw them was in Mannheim on the last tour he was in.

So I have to ask: what happened to Jon Lord?

I've got a Deep Purple story -

Around 84 my Mother In Law worked in a pub called The White **** in Blythe Bridge, Stoke On Trent. One sunday afternoon they had just locked the doors when there was two long haired men knocking on it. They said there was 30 of them and they needed food - he even pulled a massive wad out to prove they could pay. The landlord opened up the door, told them it would take a while for their orders but they didn't mind and they even produced a wad of notes up front.
My Mother In Law was looking round the room and thought she saw a couple of familiar faces when she then asked who they were. "We're Deep Purple" and she then told them that her most played album was Made In Japan etc. She then asked if she could ring her two Son In Laws to meet them and they agreed.
I wasn't in :( but my Brother In Law went up and had a couple of pints with them and Blackmore showed him a couple of riffs on an acoustic. Jammy jammy git.

I didn't enjoy them when Coverdale was in the band - although once he did leave I found some of his Whitesnake stuff actually quite good to listen to.
Not to the point of being a Whitesnake fan - just some of their music.
