Hi all,
First time in here....so please be gentle
Here's a little background...
A work colleague is having some difficulty at work. He looks after the company's statistics and his boss has just left the organisation, leaving him a bit in the dark with regards some of the work that used to be done (it was just the two of them).
The vast majority of their stats is kept in Excel across anywhere up to about 50 xls files - most of which have multiple worksheets inside them (I get one of these each montha dn it has TONS of data i it, across about 15 worksheets). A lot of these spreadsheets link to data from other files.
Now he's been asked to look at making some fairly large changes to some of these spreadsheets and he's on the verge of a breakdown because although he can see where his current spreadsheet links to others, he has no idea what spreadsheets link to the current one - if he makes changes, he could cause massive knock-on affects to everything else.
In hindsight, it would be easy to say - "don't you document this kind of thing" and I get the feeling that he might in the future, but for now, he's in a bit of a pickle.
Is there any way to perform a deep search inside a group of xls files to identify where the links are and where they link to?
Grateful for any advice that might be out there.
