Hi there.

Newly installed Kubuntu to compare with Ubuntu.
Dual booting with Vista.
When using Ubuntu I modified GRUB to set Vista as the default when booting but can't figure out how to do the same on Kubuntu.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks a lot.

isn't it exactly the same as you did with ubuntu just on the kubuntu?
or does it use somthing other than grub?

Gedit won't work in KDE, it's a Gnome app (Gnome Edit). You could use emacs, vi or some KDE equivalent of gedit or install gedit I suppose.

**edit**

Looks like you've already done it. :)

I've not tried a KDE distro since I played around with Mandrake a few years back. How are you getting on with it compared to a Gnome system?

It's certainly nice to look at it but it all feels a little Fisher Price if I'm honest.
I've not had much time to play with it but I probably won't stick with it.

yeah but I opened menu.lst with something like sudo gedit boot/grub/menu.lst which doesn't work in kubuntu.

sudo nano boot/grub/menu.lst
would work in either if you want to edit in the terminal, or;

kdesu kwrite boot/grub/menu.lst
if you wanted to start a graphical editor from the terminal, or, just do it from the konq menu as you did.

Not quite sure what you mean tbh. You can change the look of kde quite easily although I think it is best to do it piecemeal rather than look for an all in one theme like gnome.

Other than that kde tends to be more advanced and offers more options and control than gnome. I flip-flopped between the two to start with and decided on kde for the applications. I think kde apps tend to be better and further developed than gome ones.

It will take you a while to get used to kde just like it does switching from win to gnome. Also kde isn't targetted at grandmothers so it can be more confusing for noobs ;)

As you say, I'm just not used to KDE yet.
It's probably because it looks a lot like Windows or Mac OS X that it feels very easy to use and I tend to associate easy to use with aimed at n00bs.
With Gnome it felt like more of a learning curve but I'm sure once I start delving deeper into it I'll like it more.
