Well I did it yesterday and defected to the green side by removing my ATI X1900 XT and replacing it with a shiny BFG 8800GTX OC. I just couldn't take the R600 delays any longer!
This is a return to NVidia for me, the last NVidia I had was a TNT, and since then it's been ATI all the way 9800 Pro, X800 XL, X1900 XT and now back with the 8800GTX.
So far I am really impressed with the XP driver, I hated Catalyst Control Center, the speed, clunky interface etc. (I wish ATI had stayed with the classic control panel tbh), so I have been using ATI Tray Tools to effectively replace the CCC and still give me all the control I needed. One great feature of tray tools is the OSD (on screen display) which can display GPU clock/mem speeds, GPU/ENV temp, GPU memory used etc. etc. Does anyone know of a similar tool (with the exception of FRAPS) which can display all this information whilst running a DirectX/OpenGL window/full screen application with an NVidia card ?
As for performance of the 8800GTX compared to a X1900 it's just staggering - I only wish that Crysis MP Beta was ready now
