Grabbed myself a b-grade Seasonic X-1250 Gold PSU from OC around a week ago, installed last night.

Shutdown my PC earlier today to take my dog for a walk, came back, pressed the power button on my case and there was nothing.

Removed the 3 pin connector from the back of the case, plugged it back and nothing.

But i removed the plug from the socket, plugged it back and it powered up.

Samething happened just now, tried the same thing, same order and the same thing happened again.

Doesn't happen if i leave it a few minutes and try the power again.

Faulty PSU?? Faulty plug?? Any ideas??

do you have another lead that you could try it with to try and rule out the plug? But personaly i would just return it.

Just left it around 30 mins, tried the plug first, nothing, knocked the switch off on the back, nothing, had to do it a few times to get the PC to come on.
Will try a different plug, leave it another 30 mins and see what happens.

When you turn it on does it immediately turn itself off

It doesn't turn itself off, i just shut it down as normal.

Leave it for a few minutes (not 30 mins like i thought) and i have the same issue.
When it comes to turning the computer back on after a shutdown, i have to do the unplug/plug back in trick to get the PC to power up.

Could be the power button on the NZXT case but then why would my PC eventually come on at all if the power button was faulty?

Time to see what happens this time.

Powered down the PC, left it 1 minute, tried power button, nothing, used psu switch, off, then on, then off, did this a few times, nothing pressed the power button the case again, still nothing.
Did the a few cycles off the psu switch on and off and then the PC turned on.

Gonna try just pressing the power button on the case once and trying the psu power switch a few times to see if it comes on.

Tried knocking my PC back on straight after a shutdown and nothing.

Tried the case power button on its own a few times, nothing.

Did the psu switch on and off and the PC powered up. Seems as soon as the PSU powers down it goes into sleep mode and needs to be woken up but why the need for so many on/off switch cycles??

Has to be the power supply but i will have to try my old one tomorrow to rule out the case being the issue.

I only had it running a couple of hours last night, a few today and then this BS starts to happen.

Haven't had to RMA anything from OC since 2008 :(

Little update.

Two attempts, one press of the case switch, 2 cycles of on/off and it came on.

Next attempt, one press of the case switch, required 4 cycles of the on/off psu switch.

Gotta love troubleshooting eh??

yeah it does sound like the psu fella.

Will set up my old PSU tomorrow, will have to be done one way or another if i have to rma the Seasonic one anyway.

Was expecting to use less cables with a fully modular PSU too but i think the semi modular ones end up doing the same job.

Might make a difference in the really big cases though.

I love that whenever i build someone else a PC i have no problems but when i do a overhaul of my own something always crops up, however big or small the issue is :(

edit:

Done another quick google "Need to "crank" my Seasonic Gold X 1250w to start" and the guy who made that thread seems to have a very similar problem to mine, with a slight difference but very similar nonetheless.

edit: He probably has the exact same problem as me, thinking he needs to remove the plug like i did but i realised that removing the plug from the socket was not needed, just the on/off cycle on the psu switch itself.

Argghh, just tested my PC again just now, was unplugged ready for the PSU removal, plugged it back into the socket, switched the psu switch to on and it came on straight away.

Need more testing now ffs.

Edit:

One shutdown after less than an hour on and the same thing.

One press of case button, didnt count how many times i had to switch the psu switch on and off but it was quite a few times.

Oh well, PSU removal time.

at least you caught it before it had chance to do any damage

Indeed and well before the 90 day warranty was up to.

Was delivered with no original box, cables still attached and the other cables in an OC branded plastic bag.

Taken from a ex-display or pre-built rig is my guess but i have no way of knowing.

Never had a problem with b-grade stuff from OC before but then i have never bought a b-grade PSU before either.

Well, sent it back Wed, been tested today and a replacement order is in place.

Haven't had to deal with rma's from OC since 2008 but their are as efficient as i remember, maybe even more so.

Not sure how its going to work seeing as it was a b-grade item though??
